Start your search early: Preparing your finance, solicitor and surveyor in advance will give you the best chance of securing the property of your choice

On moving day, keep a handy box of essentials with you – tea, coffee and toothbrush etc.

Take out contents & building insurance and vehicle insurance policies as soon as you have your move-in date.

Notify your utility companies (water, gas, electric) in advance, this will allow them time to book final meter readers and save you time.  

Compare Energy companies and suppliers, Octopus and Igloo offer the very competitive rates with phone and online apps allowing independence from meter readers.

Notify your bank and credit providers as well as your mobile phone, broadband or satellite suppliers one month in advance.

Arrange for your mail to be redirected, you can do this at the post office or online at www.royalmail.com. It’s also useful to leave a forwarding address and contact number to ensure all your mail can easily be passed on by the new occupants. 

Organise for your internet installation to occur the day after you move. Locally BT 900Mb and Virgin 516Mb broadband are available in Kensington and Chelsea and provide some of the fastest speeds, whilst Sell Energy Broadband and Plusnet provide budget options.

Organise online removal quotes when you market your house, then when the time comes, you will only need pick a date with your chosen company. Removal firms prioritise clients who have accepted quotes in advance, giving you the best chance of moving on your preferred day. Avoid moving on Fridays as many service providers may close early. If you are moving into a busy street, speak to the council beforehand to properly understand the parking procedure for removals, you may be allowed to reserve a space for the removal if organised on specific days.

Expert packers, are available for additional fee, ask your removal company about them, packers come to your house and professionally pack all your belongings, then unpack them at your destination, they also dissemble and reassemble furniture, turning moving into a breeze.
